Green Cleaning – Actually Less Expensive!

Published by carolsue at 1:10 pm under green cleaning Edit This

Today store shelves are lined with cleaning products claiming to be natural, eco-friendly, or organic.  And yes, because of these terms, manufacturers are charging more for the product.  However, the terms natural, eco-friendly and organic are not necessarily regulated by any governmental agency, with respect to cleaning products,  thus manufacturers use these terms pretty loosely. There is nothing green about bleach and labeling as green is deceptive. This is called “green washing” and in reality manufacturers are taking advantage of the everyday consumer that wants to be environmentally conscious.

However, there are cleaning products that are truly green and are less expensive, than non-eco friendly cleaning products.  For instance, 409 cleaner and Fantastic Heavy Duty cleaner cost about $2.79 for a 32 oz bottle.  Usage instructions for this product are to be used straight from the bottle.  Furthermore, a 32 oz bottle of Fantastic or 409 makes ¼ gallon of cleaning solution.   The 409 and Fantastic cleaners calculate at a cost of $11.16 per gallon.  A bottle of Basic H2 by Shaklee comes in a 16 oz bottle at a cost of $10.15 (with Shaklee membership) and the mixing instructions are 2 teaspoons per gallon of water.  The Shaklee Basic H2 product makes a full 48 gallons of general purpose cleaner which calculates to a cost of .21 cents per gallon.  Shaklee Basic H2 is certified green by the Green Seal organization.

Shaklee Get Clean products are not only economical, but wise.  Additonally they were featured on the Oprah Show in November 2008.
